New Jersey Assemblywomen Shavonda Sumter (D-35) and Nancy Munoz (R-35) were co-recipients of the NJ Chamber’s Women Leaders in Innovation Award in 2018.
Both have brought to New Jersey innovative ideas for making medical and health care services more available to those who need them. They were designated co-winners of the NJ Chamber’s Award because of the bipartisan way they effectively translated their ideas into law.
Both legislators brought significant health care experience into the New Jersey Legislature – Nancy Munoz as a nurse for more than three decades and Shavonda Sumter as a longtime health care administrator for Hackensack Meridian Health.
The two assemblywomen have sponsored or co-sponsored legislation, that among other things, allowed patients better access to more affordable FDA-approved biologic medicines, regulated the safer handling of chemotherapy drugs, and authorized health care providers to engage in telemedicine and telehealth services.
